Here is a product that I had been coveting since it was launched this winter and that I finally succumbed to.

Not only is the Chanel Camélia de Plumes Highlighting Powder a gorgeous thing to look at, but it also was an unusual highlighting shade for me as I tend to go for the more golden tones, so I simply welcomed it into my stash.

The compact comes in a velvet pouch and that also contains a slanted brush. The compact is your traditional black background with the Chanel logo in white.

The embossed motif is really beautiful and detailed and it works very well with the name of the powder.

Kiko Colour Shock Long lasting eyeshadow and Exotic Highlighter

Kiko Colour Shock Rhythmic Blue, Taupe Highlighter and Revolutionary Burgundy

Having drooled over the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize and the Tom Ford Creme Color for Eyes, I knew that I had some cream eye shadow pots of my own that had a similar look and that I could play with while I moaned over the unfairness of life, inaccessible brands and how expensive they are.

So, when I went through my stash I found two of the Kiko Colour Shock Long Lasting Eyeshadows from the Boulevard rock collection of 2014.

I also found a highlighter in a similar packaging. It was the Exotic Highlighter in Taupe from the Lavish Oriental collection of 2012.

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

There are times when you can’t help but be amused by coincidences and right timing.

I had been looking for a new face mask for quite a long time when I ran into a couple posts talking about the The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask.

With such a name it isn’t likely that you will forget about it, but the fact that Caroline Hirons reviewed it and thought that it was a good product that delivered on what it promised put it firmly on my radar. As I have a The Body Shop store in town I simply had to try it and share my opinion.

So if you want to read my two cents on this mask, continue onto the review below.

Sunday Summary vol. 7

Sunday Summary

And here we are, as another week has flown away! I sometimes truly have the feeling that time slips through my fingers like sand. I am already stressing over what to do once the season is over: holidays, visit family, study…

In any case, today I have completed my #rainbowchallenge on instagram. This colour themed series of posts has been lots of fun to prepare as I have gone through my stash and rediscovered some old loves. And call me vain if you want, but I think it has beautified my grid! 😉

While we are on the topic of instagram, I have recently started following makeupmouse. So creative! I specially like this crying glitter look here.

On the same social network I discovered that there is a brand out there that does Harry Potter nail plates! Gorgeous nail art here as an example. And yes, I too am still waiting for my letter to arrive almost 20 years late.

Sunday Summary vol. 6

Sunday Summary

This was another busy week here, and I must say that bloggers are quite the chatty bunch! It is unbelievable how quickly unread posts accumulate! Nevermind, I will persevere and go through my bloglovin feed.

However, of the posts that I have already read, there were some that grabbed my atention.

A couple blogs had pictures of the upcoming Miami Beach Babe collection by Kiko. If you have seen some lipsticks with polka dots on the lipstick itself, those are part of this collection. And when I saw these ink stamp tattoos I was immediately transported back to my teens as I used to have a beautiful butterfly stamp!

This week I have also been listening to musicals. I love Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Starlight Express … but I swear I can still sing along all of the Lion King songs! If you wonder what brought this trip down memory lane, it is all Beautiful with Brains fault! I also couldn’t help myself and had to google some of the fantastic makeups on the Cats cast. Incredible!

And it seems that sometimes the same topic pops up in different blogs at the same time. This week the topic was brushes!

Dustin Hunter has a post on Besame Cosmetics Boudoir brushes. These look spectacular and he swears that they are oh so soft!

The Beauty Codes is showcasing her best brushes, and this is the first post about it. After reading it I just felt that the Edward Bess crease brush had to be mine! Ouch at the price though.

Beautiful with Brains also has a post on brushes, in this case on eye makeup brushes. All the basic shapes and functions are covered here.

And finally, Snow White and the Pear has a very interesting and thought inducing post on hauls and how to buy responsibly. Go read it!

 Hope you enjoy your Sunday!

PS: I am in the middle of my own #rainbowchallenge on instagram. Come admire the colourful pretty products!

Sunday Summary vol.5

Sunday Summary

This week has been an intense one at work. Days have flown by and it is a good thing that I tend to bookmark the things I want to mention on this Sunday posts or otherwise I would not remember a thing by now!

First of all, I was amused by my little island sneaking into some beauty blogs in different ways. Lisa Eldridge posted a photograph on instagram about being here for a shoot (and I may or may not have flailed) and it seems that there is yet another Charlotte Tilbury product with a name related to my home. Hey Charlotte, thanks for the love, but it would be really nice if we could actually get your products here!

This week I was also very very happy that the new matte lipsticks that Mac will launch soon will be permanent. That means being able to use my empty containers for the b2m program! I might even get the blue one just because 😉 Temptalia has swatches of of them here as does Karen here.

As for inspiration, this week I bring you three very different styles on instagram.

  • Silvia here is all about colourful! I love her bold and bright looks, how she might coordinate her lips with her eyes or even her hair with her make up and I really envy those fantastic and colourful cut creases!
  • Erica here is all about that Scandinavian flawless look. I sometimes am astonished at her skills with eyeliner which sometimes is more whimsical like here or her out of the box looks like here.
  • Finally, describing Andrea here is a bit more difficult. She has some unusual colour combinations like this one, a side of playful here, unexpected lip combinations like this geometrical one, spooky looks here or naif and elegant here. What is sure is that she is very creative!

Spotlight: foundations

MAC F&B, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, MAC Prolongwear, LM Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide and Chanel Mat Lumière

As I have explained before, my skin can be a bit tricky when shopping for foundations, so that might be an explanation as to why I have accumulated so many of them.

First of all, I have oily skin and I live in a place where it is very hot and humid in summer so it is a tricky combination as most foundations melt off my face. Also, my skin is sensitive, yellow toned but with redness on the centre of the face. And finally, I don’t really like mask like foundations.

All this means that many times I have been matched to a cool toned foundation or a darker foundation or one with high coverage only to apply it once I am home and cringe.

Let me tell you about my foundation journey below.

Sunday Summary vol. 4

IMG_1680

Here it is again, my summary of the week already on its 4th edition and featuring make up inspiration, application tips and jewlery.

If last week I was loving the inspiration that came from looks involving blue, this week I loved this stunning look that combines black and a metallic red. The author of the look told me that that red was a pigment by tammytanuka who has an etsy shop worth checking out if you love sparkly and duochrome eye shadows at very intersting prices.

Sunday Summary vol.3

IMG_1680

About shades of blue, make up lights, brushes and more.

Let’s start assuming that I can be a bit of an odd one. So when I tell you that my favourite colour is a very specific shade of blue, you will not be that surprised to hear that.

My favourite shade of blue is “azul añil”. Yep, that specific shade. I had to visit wikipedia to get the English translation, which is indigo. In many places of the mediterranian indigo has been used to add accents to the white washed houses. If you get the chance to visit Chefchaouen, in Morocco, do it, as the blue-rinsed houses create a stunning image.

Anyway, we digress! The thing is that as much as I love blue, it is not that easy to find blue-themed make up looks in a world of neutrals, so when I saw several this week I was really excited!

I really liked Linda Halberg’s Crying paint and Sandra Holmbom’s Blue Lagoon. I may never be able to recreate them but they sure make a statement! I also really liked the simplicity of this Navy and red look by Frida Skoglund that has that bright pop of blue that makes it special. And if I wanted to go more dramatical, there is always this look or this look that I saw on ABH’s instagram.
