Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

I had been coveting this product for a long time so when a few months back I had this epic haul, one of the items that I bought at the NARS stand was the Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.

I had been using the Urban Decay Primer Potion for a couple years before so I impatiently waited for my last Urban Decay tube to finally be empty so I could try the Nars Primer.

However, I have mixed feelings about the Nars Primer and I am afraid that I don’t have the best opinion of it.

I had been layering the UD Primer Potion and the Mac Paintpot in Soft Ochre as my eye shadow base to be able to deal with my oily lids and neutralise the veins and pigmentation of my lids.

So when I started using the Nars primer I too layered it with Soft Ochre. Big failure there! The first week alone my eye shadow creased on me three times!

I was advised to use less primer, wait for it to dry and I also stopped using the Paintpot on top. Since then things have been better but not as good as with my UD Primer. My eye shadow still might crease, the eye shadows look less intense and I don’t get the fresh canvas that I get by layering the UD primer and Soft Ochre.

I am also not won over by the applicator. While it is true that the packaging looks sleek and elegant in true Nars style, I do not care for the doe foot applicator. I didn’t like it in the old UD primer version and I do not like it here as I am sure that not only do you end wasting product but it is less hygienic as well.

I am also not exactly thrilled by how how thin and transparent the formula is. I tend to apply my primer with my fingers and I am never sure if I have evenly coated my lid as I cannot actually see it. You just assume that it is there and raise a prayer hoping it actually is.

And finally, the fact that the UD one costs less and contains more amount of product makes me lean back towards the UD Primer Potion.

As soon as I finish this tube I am going back to UD which for me is less fusy and performs better. Yep, I might be the only blogger out there to not be won over by the Nars primer.

However, if you have less oily lids or you live in a less humid and warm place, this might work for you!

    1. Usually in winter I can get away with wearing only Paint Pots, however now in summer it is unthinkable! I just looked at the weather forecast for this week and next Wednesday we expect 26ºC at 8am!! How is that even possible!

  1. MAC Paintpots are my favorite base as of late, although I just opened a small tube of the UD Primer Potion that I was gifted and have been enjoying using that in alternation. The UDPP (original formula) that I’m using now works perfectly fine, but I greatly prefer the UD Primer Potion in Eden to any primer I have used, Paintpots included. Have you tried that one? It’s the same PP, but with a yellow-ish coloring to it–very similar to combining Soft Ochre and UDPP Original together into one product.

    1. A couple years ago I tried one of the coloured UDPPs, but I think it had more of a pinkish tone to it. I really liked it as it evened out my lids!
