Getting the scoop on Laura Mercier’s summer trends

Laura Mercier Un Été à Ibiza, Summer 2015 collection introduction

Over a week ago I was offered an appointment at my local Laura Mercier stand to get a look featuring the new summer 2015 trends. We were lucky enough to welcome Amanda Rijff who oversaw the look application by Sapphire and provided useful tips.

The collection is called “Un été à Ibiza“, which means A summer in Ibiza and I couldn’t be more amused by it. If you pair it with last year’s Charlotte Tilbury’s “Sirens of Ibiza” collection, I feel that the island has achieved a glamour reputation in recent years.

As for the Laura Mercier collection, it features a mixture of permanent and limited edition items.

The face is meant to be fresh and sunkissed, using the new Face Illuminator and Bronzing Gel while on the eyes the new Eye Glacés in silver, bronze and gold are used and the lips are painted with the new Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in bright colours.

The collection items are beautiful and very flattering, but of course we adapted it to my skin and needs.

The Foundation Primer, which I already love in its oil-free version, was applied and instead of using the Tinted Moisturiser, as I had previously bought the wrong Flawless Smooth Finish Fluide, we instead used the Fluide and matched me to the shade Cashew. I usually use fingers to apply this foundation but she used a sponge. I have to give it a try myself as well!

I love how even and alive Sapphire always leaves my skin. In this case she used the Secret Camouflage in SC3 and the Secret Concealer in 2 to give me a flawless base. The main difference, apart from the experience and know how of course, from when I do my own make up is how patient and thorough she is.

To set everything in place and give a bit more coverage she applied the Smooth Finish Foundation Powder.

Until here the make up was mostly your well-known flawless Laura Mercier base, but to give it the sunkissed effect, she applied some of the Baked Blush Bronze in Ritual with a fan brush and some Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Bronze 03 as a subtle contour. Finally, a touch of Crème Cheek Colour in Sunrise, a beautiful coral shade, was applied and a pinkish golden highlighter, which I did not catch, was used to give dimension to the face.

The eyes featured the new Eye Glacés, which have a very glossy appearance, to create a sort of subtle shimmery smoky eye. The lids were prepared with Eye Basics in Wheat and then a mixture or Eye Glacés in Blazing Sun (bronze) and Wet Sand (antique gold) was applied with a fluffy duo fibre brush. It seems that simply using fingers sheers out the product too much and as these Eye Glacés are sheerer than the Metallic Crème Eye Colours it might be a good idea to follow the recommended application method.

To give more intensity to my eyes, Sapphire applied Caviar Stick in Cocoa to my lower lash line with a pointed Smoky Eyeliner. She also applied some Caviar Stick in Sapphire on my upper waterline, very close to the lash roots, to make the white of my eyes whiter and my dark brown eyes pop. Love the tip! She finished the eyes by applying Tightline Cake Eye Liner with a flat brush to the roots of my upper lashes and plenty of mascara. Another nice tip was to apply the mascara on my lower lashes without touching the roots, this gives you a less harsh effect and makes your eyes look bigger.

To finish the look, she applied Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Sunblaze, which is a gorgeous tomato/coral red with very subtle gold shimmer that doesn’t completely dry so it retains a shiny finish.

Needless to say when I got the chance to look myself in a mirror and see the final result I felt very glamorous and I couldn’t help getting a few of the products for myself.

I will feature this products soon as I am still missing a couple which had to be ordered, but I am already telling you that I got the liquid lipstick, the cake eye liner, a caviar stick and a new brush.

Nothing too drastic chez Mercier for this summer, but you can always count on the brand to release flattering and high quality products. What will you be wearing this summer?

  1. Hello Tirurit,

You had me at Caviar Stick. I can’t imagine a hot, sticky day wearing anything else–although I hear the KIKO ones are very similar. My sister bought back some items from their Milan location, but the poor woman was so overwhelmed, she forgot to include the eyeshadow sticks. I’m seriously considering getting Laura’s Sapphire and Bobbi Brown’s Shadow stick in the color Shadow. Once people get how fabulous these are, there is no turning back.

I have Laura’s Baked Highlighter in 01 and I swear it is the smoothest powder. I can only imagine how lovely the bronzer is from the same line. Great products. 🙂
